Inclusive Special Education: Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 & 5-12

Master of Education (M.Ed.): Dual Initial Licensure Program, On-Campus

Teach students with varying abilities in grades PreK-12.

At Lesley, we believe in the competence of every individual, and equal access to quality education. Here, you’ll learn to express those premises in your teaching, and prepare to be a lifelong advocate for your students. By completing this program, you'll get two initial teaching licenses, which will qualify you to teach students with moderate disabilities in grades PreK through 12.

REGISTER: M.Ed. in Education Virtual Information Session

You’ll co-construct knowledge with faculty who will support you as you advance your own inquiry and learn the foundations of your discipline. You'll learn how to help your students prepare for lifelong learning with courses in communication and social justice and inclusion. Design accessible curriculum and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Explore positive behavior supports. Discover effective ways to teach subject areas. And through self-reflection, you'll gain the cultural awareness that will lead to a fair and compassionate classroom.

During your program, you'll discover how to develop a variety of strategies for adapting curriculum, and apply those strategies during your two student teaching experiences. And because evaluating students is a responsibility of all special educators, you’ll also focus on assessment issues.

Complete your program ready to commit to the career you're passionate about. You'll graduate from the university that educates more teachers than anyone else in New England. In fact, more than 4,500 people have earned a teaching degree here in just the last five years. Employers in Massachusetts prefer to hire Lesley graduates, saying they are best prepared to enter the classroom on day one.

Important Licensure Information

All Lesley University educator licensure programs comply with current Massachusetts educational requirements, as specified. In addition, Massachusetts participates in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement, which makes it possible for an educator to have their Massachusetts license/s recognized across the United States. Depending on your professional goals, where you reside or plan to teach, and the licensure structures that exist within that state, there are diverse pathways to licensure that may be relevant. In accordance with Lesley University’s institutional participation in SARA (State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement) and with federal regulations, Lesley University strongly encourages prospective applicants who intend to pursue licensure in a state other than Massachusetts review the Lesley University Licensure and Credentialing page for more information.
