Master of Education (M.Ed.) with Initial Teacher License (1-6): on-campus, off-campus, or teacher residency graduate program

Broaden children’s learning horizons.

In this era of innovation, teachers play a crucial role in helping students become critical thinkers and problem solvers. This program is designed to show you how to inspire students with diverse skills and backgrounds, use research-based practices and current technologies, and gain content knowledge that aligns with the Massachusetts Professional Standards for Teachers

REGISTER: M.Ed. in Education Virtual Information Session

You'll explore best practices in elementary subject areas, curriculum development, literacy, and teaching equitably to all students. Develop strategies for leading a classroom with confidence and creativity. And as you move through your program, we'll encourage you to engage in the self-reflection and inquiry that will allow you to grow throughout your career.

You and your faculty will co-construct your education to master the foundations of your discipline and the skills you need to become a great teacher and teacher-leader. The program also features two student teaching experiences (teacher residencies fulfill this requirement at the residency site), so you’ll build relationships with schools and immerse yourself in combining theory and practice. Ongoing feedback allows you to grow as a teacher.

At the end of your program, you’ll be ready for a rewarding career in the 21st century classroom. Employers in Massachusetts prefer to hire Lesley graduates, saying that they are best prepared to enter the classroom on day one. Come study at New England's premier university for teacher preparation, and join the thousands of Lesley graduates making an impact all over the world.

Important Licensure Information

All Lesley University educator licensure programs comply with current Massachusetts educational requirements, as specified. In addition, Massachusetts participates in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement, which makes it possible for an educator to have their Massachusetts license/s recognized across the United States. Depending on your professional goals, where you reside or plan to teach, and the licensure structures that exist within that state, there are diverse pathways to licensure that may be relevant. In accordance with Lesley University’s institutional participation in SARA (State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement) and with federal regulations, Lesley University strongly encourages prospective applicants who intend to pursue licensure in a state other than Massachusetts review the Lesley University Licensure and Credentialing page for more information.
